Re: Debate Moreless or Acid/Alkaline Debate Forum?

My husband is a master builder/mechanic/craftsman. As such, his opinions and help are sought by many. And it's highly irritating to him when people want his opinion(and, BTW, he doesn't reply casually, his responses are well thought out and the result of years of experience) only for the purpose of "oh, but gee, wouldn't THIS work?" -the cheap, shoddy way, "or thanks, I think I'll go ahead and..." -do project A the fvcked-up way anyway, just because it's cheaper, easier, or(my favorite) -"I disagree with that"(that, coming from a voice of ego challenged inexperience), I think I'll do it like THIS (THIS, meaning the corner-cutting way that means whatever is being discussed will inevitably collapse/break or explode).

Some of these responses are the result of laziness, some the result of being insecure in the presence of a master craftsman and the resulting need to shore up the fragile ego, and some the result of sheer stupidity.

It's quite insulting to my husband to benefit folks with his knowledge/experience and have people respond like that. It is especially insulting when folks ask for the SOLE reason of discounting him, and it does happen. Why? Because people have fragile egos, even though they do NOT have the years worth of experience hubby has, they still feel that they are as capable of doing things as well as he does, that they are just as "good".

Sooo...why would one choose to delete posts? Well, here's a thought. I recently had some of my old posts linked, posts that were pretty much in exact opposition to what I know to be true now. What was the purpose of that? To discredit me, plain and simple. Unfortunately the intention was not successful as I have NEVER claimed to have any answers, I have always presented myself as a seeker.

Now what of the situation of someone who many look to for info/answers? Could it be that there are even more attempting to discredit him? Oh, yeah...more that say, "well, gee, thanks for the years of study you've obviously put into this, but MY way is better, just because it is! Not because I have any comparative knowledge/life experiences to base my feelings on but"... or.... "look, YOU said THIS but now you say THIS" (as we lift an out of context statement from an old post)...

Mother Theresa he ain't. I wish he wouldn't delete posts either but I can certainly see why he does. I have NEVER seen evidence of the 180 thing you reference here:

"Countless postings deleted, edited out, or revised to the point of saying something 180 degrees from the original posting... bad form."

I see you've dropped those particular charges here, why, forgot? Or unable to find "evidence"?

And picking & choosing who he tells...power-mongering as you say? Or choosing based on who is ready to receive, who will listen and who will gain? Don't we all do that in this world? Let me qualify that, don't those of us with something of value to give do that? I know I do. And not being Mother Theresa, I always hope to receive something in return as well..and that something is not necessarily tangible, it may be the good feeling I get from giving.

Cuz let's face it, if it doesn't feel good, why do it? And it does NOT feel good to share with others whose sole purpose is to discredit/defame/criticize, etc.

"Am I the only one that sees this?" yes, you are.
