Re: Vaseline & sulfur for medical treatment/not beauty regiment

Your post brought back memories of my grandmother. Her mother and grandmother were Cherokee "Yarb" doctors and midwives and used local mountain plants and cures handed down through the generations of both the Cherokee and the old pioneers of the Ozark Mountains. One of Grandma's stories was how every winter the kids would come down with "THE ITCH", we now know that it is a skin parasite that causes "THE ITCH" (the way Grandma described it, capital letters seem appropriate). The family's remedy was a mixture of homemade lard and sulfur. The whole family rubbed this vile mixture all over and usually "THE ITCH" was short lived. The Vasoline and sulfur sounds like a more modern version of an old, old treatment for skin parasites. If plasicat does not want to use Vasoline, I wonder if commercial lard or even something like coconut oil mixed with sulfur would work?
