I do wonder, though, where a child would have a chance to 'choose', if they had no comparisons, or alternatives. I know that we expect adults to 'grow', by seeing a bigger slice of life, over the years. Still, 'stuck' really is stuck!
I saw a video the other day that made one point, among others, that we must find a way to 'digest' traumatic experiences, resolve them.
My way to 'resolve' unhappy experiences is to recognize that some people are simply wrong, for whatever reasons...then I choose my associates, and what I can and can't do. 'Forgiveness' has always rankled.
It took me a while to figure out my way...but I finally found it...thank goodness.
