if you really want to get rid of them tho
if you really want to get rid of them. and then contain them as much as you can to a *garden type plot.. ie: esp if you have a dog or cat that pees etc in yard lol.
get a good small blade spade shovel narrow
dampen your yard for about 15 minutes to make sure soil is looser,
then about maybe 4
inches away from plant make a small circle straight down in soil dig and angle it to loosen upwards about 4 " down to start loosening soil around the plant
they have a wide spreading root system very similar to starwberries.
to completely remove a plant you must get all the root..
when soil is loosened, grab plant near base and gently (with gloves btw/ some of those older leaves are very painful to grab)
twist and pull then twist other way and pull tyring not to break the root, but even using fingers to get root up out of the soil.
shake dirt back into hole/and gently tamp down the grass you
disturbed.
depending how over run your yard is/ it may take you an entire summer to eradicate them just worka t it a small section at a time..
after that it will be easier to *harvest new young ones that may crop up and use them dry/ store as you would any herb.
and or use the tender green in a salad will taste slightly bitter/ tangy as many wild greens do..
a suggestion/ show a kid how you want this done after you practice yourself.. and offer him maybe 1.00 per ten he pulls for you . umm pick a young child lol
he will have a great time doing this and you will get them up at a fair cost to you / just tell him/her. they can only do it when you are home and they have come to door to let you know they will be there.
and never let kid in your house /so no one can say you are weird.
get his parents permission., and take out a good pitcher of fwater for him so he doesn't get over heated.
only let him do this in late afternoon or mid morning hours / not in full heat of the day.
and lastly , YOU not him, YOU check to make sure the water hose is OFF!!! kids have great ways of forgetting these minor *laugh*
details.
anyhow.. have a great spring.
