Re: bathing in tap water
Hi Matt here,
InfiniteLove and I ran into this ourselves and decided to look into the purchase of a shower head carbon filter.
Findings: very small filters that get saturated rather quickly with the kind of 30 gals per shower that they have to be filtering -- hence not worth the money.
Alternate Solution:
Decided to go to Home Depot and buy a whole house type empty filtration canister and a thick polypropylene sediment filter, and some bulk carbon chips available from the aquarium store. Mounted up on the shower pipe @ eye level and then added a shorty extension pipe to mount the shower head onto from there. Just loaded the space inside the filter around the actual filter cartridge with the bulk carbon chips. Has worked like a champ for a couple of years so far. Just open up the canister and change the carbon chips for around $5.00 every so often when you begin to smell chlorine in your shower again.
Yeah -- they say that hot water breaks down the carbon, but -- 'so what'...!
-- you just change out the relatively cheap carbon chips from time to time...
The carbon is a standard grade and is very safe. I used to have a wall of water 6 ft. high by 6 ft. wide and because I had to make sure I didn't take chances with the $$ expensive tropical fish health, I did the research. I also ended up custom building the filtration systems so I didn't have to put in so much work on upkeep and maintenance. (I dismantled the aquarium wall when we installed new light colored wall to wall carpeting).
The de-chlor that can be added to aquariums is not what is considered a safe additive for edible fish or people-- far as I know...the
Iodine they use in a fish tank is potassium
Iodide not iodiNE.
