This couldn't be more wrong. The way that it was discovered that fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay was in a little town in Colorado in the early 20th century. Scientists were sent there because the population all had mottled teeth and they wanted to know why. The research showed not only mottled teeth, but teeth that were decay free. It was determined that their water supply was naturally high in fluoride. Researchers then wondered if they could find a happy medium where the fluoride would offer the beneficial effects of protecting against decay without the negative side effect of mottling. Scientists discovered this happy medium, and tooth decay is at its lowest in the areas that are fluoridated. Also, you seem to thing dentists charge "outrageous prices" for dental work. Do you have any idea how expensive it is to run a dental office. In most offices, 1/2 to 2/3 of all money produced goes to pay overhead. Most dentists are lucky if they take home 1 of every 3 dollars they produce. It's funny, most people wouldn't bat an eye at paying $1000 for a big screen tv, but for a crown that can save your tooth; well all of a sudden there is no money to be found.
