I had the copper IUD inserted in late 2004. I had alot of discharge due to it and sometimes after intercourse the discharge would smell funny, needless to say I did not care for that. After a 1 1/2 yrs. I became pregnant with the copper IUD in place. I had to have it removed and then had to have a D&C. I was looking into the mirena now but very leary because I got pregnant with the copper one. Maybe the copper might work for you but I don't think it agreed with me with the discharge and then the pregnancy, good luck.
