Comment, and one pitfall of alkalizing.

The term "calcium hydroxide users" is misleading. The protocols described by the respondents all include kelp, as far as one can tell.

Keep in mind that over 80% of the US population is deficient in iodine. If you live in the US and are increasing your Iodine intake in the form of kelp, then you are satisfying a body deficiency known to manifest itself via a wide range of symptoms.

Ingesting kelp with an inert substance such as lime still causes bodily Iodine to increase. Don't let the smoke and mirrors obfuscate the true beneficial agent, which is iodine.

When supplemening with iodine, bromides stored in the body are released, which may cause symptoms of bromism. Additionally, Iodine is known to cause release of heavy metals cadmium and mercury from body tissues.

Supplementing with ordinary salt, sodium chloride, in an amount 6 -10 grams per day, increases bromide excretion by a factor of 10. However, when the individual has lead in their body, ingesting ammonium chloride instead of sodium chloride increases renal acidity, which in turn catalyzes lead excretion.

By striving to be "alkaline", when supplementing with iodine, people are in fact causing their bodies to retain stored lead. As most are aware, lead causes reduced intelligence, and compounds the effects of other heavy metal poisoning.

To each his own.
