Re: Tetanus Shot (A Conversation)
Fortunately I have never yet had to put an herbal tetanus cure to the test, but I'm prepared just in case. John R. Christopher mentions a variety of herbs that each (separately) can be used for blood poisoning. Plantain is tops on this list. I have also noticed over the years that some people use the term "blood poisoning" as a catch all to mean any and all infections, whereas others use the term to denote specific types of blood poisoning, like the kind that comes from an infected cut. Doc John is one such who differentiates. He specifically states "for blood poinsoning, use Plantain....... for tetanus "lockjaw", use either Lobelia, or Chapparal"
He cites a pretty dramatic example of using Plantain to treat a fellow who'd suffered a cut wound at his job in a factory, some piece of dirty metal got wedged into his palm, but the fellow was of the mind that he could not afford to miss time to leave work and have it treated. By the end of the day, the wound had gotten badly enflamed, with the telltale red streaks running up the entire length of his arm where he had a large, swollen lump (probably a lymph gland). Doc John took him in, crushed some fresh plantain, applied as a moist poultice, and monitored the fellow for an hour, after which the red streaks had gone away and the lump subsided. The fellow came back a few days later to say how he was pain free by the next day and the wound well on it's way to closing and healing.
