Re: BARF people, invincible, critterkids: what do you think of this article?

Hi Ozone,

There is a lot going on in that article, but here is my personal take on feeding raw. I think the pet food industry is like big pharma. They make a lot of money and don't want the public to know what (really, really bad stuff) is really in the commercial foods and the vets are NOT taught about prevention or nutrition. And the vet industry is like the human medical industry. You can look at the curriculum of any vet school and real nutrition isn't there. The small handful of vets that do understand it are considered renegades and learn about it after leaving school or are self taught. If raw feeding were to catch on and become mainstream, it would collapse the pet food industry, which isn't going to happen. So anyone who feeds a raw diet is swimming upstream...

So this issue about whether one should feed the BARF (I personally don't like the 'word' BARF, but if it works, then so be it) model or the prey model, or whatever model...is moot in my opinion. I studied different things and came up with what I felt comfortable with for my pups in feeding raw. I throw the dogs hunks of bony meats, organs, fish and eggs and otherwise give them a few veggie and fruit treats. I don't mix a thing. Ultimately it needs to be easy for the pet owner to do it, or many owners would become non-compliant and slip back into the kibble junk food thing.

As far as results go, I have seen no less than spectacular results feeding a raw diet and I will personally never go back, no matter what. And I am no expert, but I know what I have experienced.

Just my humble opinion . . .

Thanks for sharing and best of luck in switching over.
