Re: which is stronger/better white composite fillings or a porcelain inlay/onlay
Hi, there is no such thing as a metal free dental restorative. All contain metals, even simple denture acrylic. The man who runs the blood serum lab in USA (Walter Clifford) is a biochemist and knows what is contained in these materials and told me that not one is "metal free".
Porcelain can last around 20-30 years so I've heard/read. Some have problems with porcleain when they are not really getting true ceramic, but instead getting part ceramic, part metal and don't realise it as it can be covered up. You must find out if you are getting full solid porcelain and no metal base under it!
Cerec porcelain is a good one apparently. Porcelain is harder and more stable and less likely to leech out its components than composites. Just make sure you don't get one that has a hidden metal base! Because anything with direct metal (like braces) will set up galvanic activiity inside the mouth and can cause major issues, especially if you have different metals in the same mouth.
