Hello,
I am slowly doing a dental clean-up. My regular dentist has changed some of my mercury fillings with composites. He then told me I needed a crown for a chipped back tooth..and did not offer porcelain.
So I went to a biological denist; he said that I did not need a crown on that tooth, but he would suggest a composite/bonding. Which is fine with me, cost wise too!! BUT when I had asked about a few other mercury fillings, he said that it would be best to replace them with porcelain onlay or inlays(cannot remeber which one he said)..His reason was, that the fillings were large (not that large!), and the doing the porcelain would be more durable, and may even prevent
root canal in the future..I am confused.
So question..is this guy just 'selling me' because the porcelain is around $1,000 as oppossed to the $200-$300 composites?? AND is the porcelain better for my teeth as far as more durable and less toxic??? I have read that porcelain has metals too and could affect the teeth next to it?? IF I am going to do this the correct way, I will go with the porcelain...BUT not sure what is the right thing to do??? Dont' want to get ripped off, but also don't want to have to get extra dental work in the future.
Any advice or knowledge would be appreciated.
Thank you!!
