Re: I still suffer from itchy scalp too
I found a fantastic source of info for my burning red itchy scalp and eczema and heres an excerpt from their website dryitchyscalpremedies.com on their Resources page....really good info on what causes it. Daughters scalp is much better now:
I have added some of it here, lavender oil and rosemary mixed with neem REALLY helps, heres the mixture I used:
One teaspoon of Neem oil (very powerful anti itching and anti fungal oil)
15 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil (heals & soothes plus has antiseptic properties)
15 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil (soothing, anti-flammatory and is very calming plus it helps restore hair growth)
(Optional - add four drops of Teatree or Melaleuca oil as a bacteria blaster)
(Also optional - if you can find Hemp oil add a tsp of that also)
Shake the mixture above vigorously as the oils will want to separate from the water so you will need to apply it quickly. If you want to mix the oils together without the water but instead use ¼ cup of olive, or almond oil you can then use this to apply directly to irritated areas. Massage this remedy into your scalp or spray onto your scalp with a spray bottle. Leave it on for about 15 minutes then you can either shampoo it out or leave it on.
Dry Itchy Scalp, Dandruff, Burning Red & Itchy Scalp Remedies
REMEDIES FOR SCALP CONDITIONS
OK, you’ve got some issues with scalp conditions…you know it, I know it. But what causes things like dandruff, dry itchy scalp and burning?
Well, Dandruff is the process of continual shedding of skin cells on your scalp. It’s usually caused by toxins, pollutants and products that have built up on the scalp, particularly products like silicone – a cheap commonly used artificial shine enhancer in conditioners such as Pantene.
It gets worse…dandruff is aggravated by harsh ingredients in hair products. And yes, this includes dyes, shampoos, conditioners and styling stuff with propylene glycol in them. These chemicals strip the natural oils from your skin and even corrode it, as well as your eye membranes
The worst culprit is Sodium lauryl sulfate, or SLA. It causes excess flaking due to a yeast (dandruff bacterial growth) or by your own immune response to chemicals (which also results in flaking). SLA can also cause build-up on the scalp of hair products.
Believe it or not, when the natural balance of your scalp is disturbed, this creates the perfect environment for the fungus Melassezia Globbosa to move in and thrive.
This is when the natural process of shedding your cells gets a little out of hand resulting in an unsightly condition known as “Seborrhoeic Dermatitis” (fancy name for dandruff) and you see the highly visible tell-tale signs of flaking and crusting.
Then you start scratching…and it gets worse. accompanying itch and urge to scratch are often made worse by the multiplication of the fungal yeast having one big party on your scalp!
But scratching just makes it worse…and can cause small lesions which weep and ooze or become infected. Lumps bumps and sores are also common when the scalp is highly irritated or you’ve aggravated a sensitivity.
And you’re wondering about natural dry scalp home remedies, right?
So why should you want to use a natural remedy for your dry, itching scalp or scalp lesions problem? Well, for one thing, commercial products can irritate your scalp and have side effects like dandruff…they can even worsen the cycle of flakey, itching scalp!
