Re: Another ugly run in with tap water
Hmmmm, that certainly is some food for thought, especially now that the episode of learning/experimenting with the water tank pump Pressure Switch adjusting nuts is over with.
I'm pretty sure this tank has two rods in it. There are two plastic caps recessed into the top surface of the heater, one blue, one red. I suspect these caps have something to do with the two rods. I'm also assuming one of these rods, like the red cap one, is important for making the water get hot. The special water tank guy replaced one of these rods, I'm assuming he replaced the heating rod and also assuming this is denoted by the red cap. But what's that blue one all about? Do you think the blue cap has anything to do with the offending rod you described.... the one that reacts with water to make stinky odor? There must be some other reason, perhaps marketing, why the blue cap rod is there, because it seems reasonable there are at least some people out there who wouldn't buy this kind of tank if the blue rod's only purpose in life was to make stinky water.... but then again, a lot of strange things happen in this consumer-based world that's been provided for us, so who knows?.
This definitely stokes my curiosity. Thanks. Meantime, since I only rent the water tank and the house that came with it, I'll probably stay away from rod removal at least until I can learn more about this mystery.
PS - on further reflection, I'm wondering if these two rods are intended to create some sort of electrolysis effect?
