he has those instructions deliberately confusing. i have worn the rings both ways and believe me, you can tell when they are on wrong. that said, here is the trick. he is using north and south in one of two ways they are used in different disciplines. north can be geomagnetic north, which is negative pole, or it can mean north pointing, which of course would be positive. forget that noise.
go by pos and neg. look at the rings as layers of pos and neg. on the right pinky, starting at the top, he has the top of the upper magnet marked N. this is actually positive, then neg against the top of the right pinky, then on the bottom against the pinky is pos again, then neg on the bottom of the lower magnet. the left pinky is reversed so that neg will be on top and pos will be on the bottom. you know you have the right configuration if you can hold your hands together in classic prayer pose and the magnets on the pinkies stick together.
