Re: My Cat Is Overgrooming...Help!
I have the book by anitra frazier, but she does not address overgrooming. I suppose that it could be chemical, but this seems unlikely that she would just suddenly start doing this in the last year. She is an asian breed of cat, and I have read that they are prone to obsessive compulsive behavior. Also, as I mentioned before I am doubtful that it is allergies. Her eyes and ears are clear with no discharge, scratching or sneezing. The skin is not red, discolored, scaley or patchy. She bites the hair off, but does not pull it out. There are no pustules, hot spots and she does not scratch herself or engage in head shaking etc. Her coat is gorgeous, soft and silky, she just seems compelled to bite her hair off. The hair removal is symmetrical and not in odd patches. We tried a clinical trial of hypoallergenic food which was awful, the food was bad and sam would often go 3-4 days without eating only to manage a mouthful when she did eat. She is only 6
pounds to begin with.
I have a veterinary appt. on Monday to address the problem again. Hopefully they can come up with something that makes sense. I am so annoyed with the "let's do 1000$ dollars in diagnostic tests" for things that are so unlikely. Why do tests for allergies if allergies are clearly NOT indicated....Sorry people...I regret that this has turned into a rant :(
I will let you all know what the vet decides.
Thanks for your suggestions
