I found the following article in the Province newspaper
(Vancouver BC) about the 11th of April, 2003. I am
typing it here in its entirety and word for word as I
found it. The finds in this study expressed below are
not necessarily the views of the writer of this letter :)
DRUGS CUT CANCER RISK
TORONTO--regular use of over-the-counter painkillers can reduce
the risk of Breast Cancer by as much as half, one of the largest
disease-prevention studies ever carried out in the United States
suggests.
It found that women who took a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
painkiller such as ASA, the drug used in Aspirin, for at least
five years were 21-per-cent less likely to develop Breast Cancer
than women who didn't take the drugs. Risk reduction rose to
28-per-cent with 10 years of regular use.
Acetaminophen, the drug in Tylenol, did not cut breast-cancer
risk as it isn't an anti-inflammatory.
The study involved 81,000 women aged 50 to 79. Each took a
standard dose (325 milligrams of ASA or 200 mg of ibuprofen) at
least three times a week. -CP
The end of the article.
A few words from HELEN.....
This article set me to thinking and theorizing that this ASA
seems to have something that might be beneficial for prevention
of breast cancer. Could it also be useful added as a
supplement to the diet of the cancer patient?
ASA is the synthetic form of the natural white birch tree (am I
correct?) just as the Vitamin C tablets we buy in stores are
synthetic Vitamin C(Ascorbic acid).
Would it be more beneficial and healthier, to take an anti-
inflammatory in herbal form or some other equally-healthy form?
White Birch, maybe?
Now there's something for you all to think about and research.
Let me know what you find. I don't have time to do the research
right now.
