As the previous posters mentioned it, if you change the tampon regularly it should be safe to use. I have been using tampons for 3 decades and never had any problem. Personally I like the one you get at Whole Foods and have been mostly using cotton made tampons.
For the night I use pads to take a break from tampons for few hours.
Good hygiene, changing the tampon frequently and drinking enough water are important.
