Re: 10 yr old with type 1 diabetes

I would be VERY careful about listening to MOST of the advise given in this thread if I were you (unless you want to kill your child). If however you do want to try what they suggest, which would be fine as long as you TEST your child while doing this... and TEST OFTEN. Telling a diabetic to not take insuline is insane... you will have some time when the insuline will almost be not needed because as someone did mention there will probably be a "honeymoon period" but dont let this fool you. The insuline needs will increase as time goes on and dont let that concerne you so much that you stop giving it permanently or anything.

you cannot "cure" type one diabetes. It CANNOT be done. (I do expect a bit of a backlash from the others who posted but so be it) I dont want to be too harsh but I also dont want you to have false hope either.

I have been diabetic myself for about 24 years (I am 27 now). What I would suggest you do however is go to a website like "childrenwithdiabetes.com" and chat with other parents in their forums. I'd hang out in the Parents forum primarily if I were you cus noone really ever goes in the other ones too much. Its a very good resource for parents of the newly diagnosed and for those who have had it for a long time as well.

Good luck.
