You may not like some types of marketing but you probably fail to consider that it is ingenious marketing that reaches more people than a bad marketing plan. How many people have benefited from Jordan Rubin's marketing? If he wasn't around, how many people would have actually received a similar message?
Is Jordan Rubin manipulating people? Should people take responsibility for their own actions? He isn't making people buy his books or his supplements. Did Jordan Rubin really claim he created The Maker's Diet?
