Re: Irrational fear of birds
It's so wierd to hear all these people having the same problem as me!! I am totally terrified of pigeons... I know I haven't always had it but I've no idea when it got as bad as it is now! I "learned " it off my mum who hates them too but somehow I seem to be worse than her now!
I can't tell you how many embarrasing "pigeon moments" I've had....I creep around like a nrevous wreck waiting fro the next incident. I find it so humiliating & embarrasing, it really effects my self confidence. The worst was when I cracked my head open getting into the car too quickly as I was trying to escape a pigoen... after 8 hours in casualty & 6 stitches in my head I realised i couldn't go on. I made an appt with my GP who referred me to a psycologist to have systematic desensitisation. It didn't cure me & I reached a point which I couldn't go past. But I acheived way more than I thought I could (holding feathers etc) My advice to anyone wanting to go down this route is don't think to much about coping with the end result - the therapist will break it down into managable chunks so it's not to scary, you deal with the first chunk & you don't move on to the next stage until you're ready.
I've also tried hypnotherapy after I had a recommendation from someone. The idea that the whole phobia could be removed that simply was very appealing!! However , it hasn't worked & infact has made me lapse in a lot of the things i learned with the first therapy. So I'm back at the beginning as bad as I've ever been wondering what to try next.....
