I believe what you're telling me of people transferring fears to others. My mother always had a phobia of swimming because she thought she'd drown and because of it, every time she saw me go near the water in a pool or beach she would freak out and start yelling at me. This goes back to my childhood. Because of that now I'm afraid of swimming. I don't mind going in the water but I won't even attempt to swim because I have a fear of drowning... I've had this irrational fear of birds since I was very young (like 4 years old) and I transferred my fear onto my younger brother. I guess he saw the way I would react to birds and he began to fear them as well, although he eventually got over his fear when he was old enough to realize his sister's fear was irrational and her reaction to birds was NOT normal, I wish I could do the same.
