You want it both ways, full power only partial financial risk. Take full financial responsibility for the power you wield. You can't consider yourself autonomous during pregnacy but a dependent afterwards.

I understand the opposition as the implications of such a fair and reasonable system would have negative social impact. Since this is a strictly intellectual exercise the point is moot.
