Herod was obviously mistaken when he thought Jesus was John the Baptist.

Jesus could not have been speaking of Elijah being "here" literally as Elijah was translated into heaven without seeing death. And, Elijah came down from heaven personally with Moses to minister to Jesus in the garden just before the crucifixion.

Since Elijah never died, he could not have been reincarnated as John the Baptist. Tweet
