Another thing that has helped me when people make off the wall comments about my behavior is to say to them "Oh, why do you say that?"
"Because it's true, chucklehead," they can respond.
"But whatever your opinion, why would you want to SAY a thing like that to anyone?"

With some people this at least confuses them for a few seconds!
