Re: anyone here cut off thier parents?
I do understand completely.I stopped talking to my dad &
approx a yr later he died. You have to be sure they'll be
no regrets before opting to walk away from parents.I had
no regrets from not talking anymore. The older I got the
worse he got.Really turned into verbally putting me down
& basic verbal abuse,I was late 20's.He had me cowering
crying in a corner, while my toddler looked on & 6 months
later he'd met a nice lady,tried becoming a man I didn't
know.To much had happened & I thought it was a front
(later revealed possibly wasn't).
I couldn't then go to hugging, kissing,I love you daddy
stuff etc.All I really knew was an angry man.So I told
him it was too late for me,I could not try & said we won't
talk anymore.I saw him once, tried ignoring my calling out
to him but stopped because I had my toddler son with me.We
exchanged 2-3 sentences in the yr before he died.
You can't change your parents, limit your time seeing them is
the best advice. Before you concider not ever seeing them, think
about how you'd think/cope if something serious happened or
either or both died.
