boyfriend in the army, wants to be a lifer..no!!

My boyfriend is in Iraq and will be there until December. I will see him when he has leave in August for two weeks. I always thought he would come home after Iraq and go into the reserves. But now he tells me that he really wants to do the army for a living. He said he would only get deployed like every 4 years..and at the most a year per deployment. What?! I can't be away from him for a year..again!!

I didn't come out and say I supported his decision, because I don't. But I love him enough to consider it's the right choice for him.

I was wondering if there is anyone out there married to someone in the military. What is it like? How do you do it? Do you think I should try to convince him to choose a different career. He is so smart, but he doesn't want to go back to college. I wish he would, education is important to me. We are young, 22 years old.

I would hate to have him give this up, I don't want him to resent me. I just always thought my husband would be with me all the time..and definately not in the army for life. I'm so confused. I just need help with this! Thanks, LDB. Tweet
