Is it really over?

I'm new to this bu I have nowhere else to turn. I'm 21 and I've been dating a 22 year that is about to be 23. He tells me that I "talk down to him," and that I hear what he says but I don't listen. Two days ago he told me thatt he couldn't take me doing more talking than listening and he called it quits. Then he turned around and said that we's get back together when I start to act right. I really love him, we've been together for 2 years but tturned serious a little more than a year ago. But in the back of my head I know feel that we do need the time apart. But how much time is "enough time." I want him back. Please help.
