Re: Asana Sequence

Hi YP,

That's a little too much for me to read through. I would suggest to use your own best judgment and instinct in preparing a learning schedule for beginners. Have you got training as a yoga teacher? This type of thing is routinely covered in teachers' training programmes.

It is usually recommended a basic practice (like Swami Vishnu's) for all people, adjusting as required for obesity, early term pregnancy, or other physical limitations. Legs-up the wall pose is excellent for obese people or those unable to come up into the shoulderstand. Over time they can flatten their feet on the wall and start to lift their trunk up.

As I mentioned before, standing poses and balances can be done at the end of the sequence. The tree pose is very effective at the end. Bridge pose can be done after Sarvangasana. Keep in mind how the body is being used and which chakras are involved. This will help you to understand (also intuitively) where an asana should be placed.

I wish I could help more, but my time is quite limited. I would suggest purchasing the Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga by Swami Vishnu-devananda which outlines practice schedules for beginners.

Best of luck,
janaki
