Symptoms are changes in the person in regards to normal sensation/bodily functions that the person notices. Hot flashes can occur during menopause thus they are a symptom of menopause. If you're going to talk about direct to consumer marketing and advertising, etc. and condemning it, look at alternative healthcare. It's not an underground fad. Ads, commercials, websites, companies all over the place. Anybody can make a website and claim to have a product that does xyz without regard to potential consequences. Some of the alternative therapies are based on "no no no that way doesn't work, try MY way instead, money back guarantee" That's neither preventative medicine nor responsible healthcare. Not all of alternative healthcare is infallible and not all allopathic medicine is quackery. It doesn't have to become a polarizing debate.
PS the reason why pseudoephedrine is used and ephedrine not is because pseudoephedrine has less adverse stimulant effects on the cardiovascular system.
