Calcium content doesn't equal healthful
Maiden, I find the logic behind your question interesting... whether or not a food has calcium in it has no relation to it being acidic or not. You cannot assume that any food is healthy just because it has calcium (or vitamin E or iron or any other nutrient) in it. As you can see from Tracy's reply, most dairy products are acidic. They are toxic to the body, really. The calcium is not easily absorbable by the body and frequently deposits itself elsewhere than in the bones, causing calcifications and problems.
Look at fruit on her list - most fruits are alkaline. But if fruit is canned, then it is acidic. That is because something changed when it was canned - the enzymes were killed and it is no longer alive.
Nuts are somewhat contraversial. Raw nuts are healthy in general, but roasted nuts are mostly acidic, and different individuals are sensitive to certain nuts (see
Blood Type Diet ). Like fruits, the heat changed them.
Also, there is a difference in the pH of food outside the body from the way it acts within the body. Take lemons - everyone knows they are acidic, right? But when you eat lemon they are very alkaline to the system.
Referring again to Tracy's post, you can see that eating a large amount of raw foods is alkalizing. The calcium that comes from green vegetables, especially leafy greens, and raw almonds, etc. is highly absorbable by the body and at the same time alkaline. Don't worry, you'll get enough calcium if you eat lots of raw foods, and if you're still nervous, you could take a supplement. That's better than depending on lots of cooked/processed acidic foods.
