I first got UC in the mid 70's about 2 weeks after quitting smoking. I was told after 5 months that I would have to have my bowel removed or die. I chose not to have my bowel removed. Then I though that if I'm going to die anyway, I might as well smoke. So I started smoking again and my health improved right away. I didn't make the connection though; I just thought that my medication had finally cut in.
10 years later I quit smoking again and got UC again within 2 weeks. I thought it was just a coincidence and didn't resume smoking until I heard of other people to whom the same thing happened. This was 7 years later. Within days of smoking 3 cigs a day my health improved and now I smoke 8 cigs a day for my health.
There is a hospital in Wales that cures UC with nicotine patches but it takes longer.
