Oh goodness, that is so sad and I am sorry to read that.

It's standard practice for family members to specialize in one thing: affirming that this is a great family! It's a clan tribe thing to protect the members from other tribes and clans. Unfortunately it doesn't work very well.

If she knew how to be the kind of mother who truly understands and affirms your experience, she would have done it 10 years ago. And to do that, she probably needed a mother who could do that for her. It sounds like this is the last person in your life who can actually process this data and be there for you. Maybe the only way she can show kindness is to share her home and say Do you want butter on your waffle?

I truly hope that you and your daughter can access the many kinds of support that are out there. There are people who want to listen and be there for you, and can share their own experience of what helped them! It's a long uphill road, but a very rewarding one.
