Re: 78 Ways Sugar Can Ruin Your Health
The use of long lists is a disingenuous device.
1. The reader will assume that the evidence is overwhelming without examining it closely.
2. The chances are that any reader will have at least one of the symptoms/diseases mentioned.
3. The references give the impression that all of the points are scientifically based. The papers mentioned are not easily accessible to the average reader (Is there an Anti-Sugar website that will show the actual articles?). Many references relate to Cleave, Appleton and Goulart et al, these are not scientific papers, but are Anti-Sugar books and articles.
4. Some of the points relate to blood glucose (which we all have, and would die without) not dietary intake.
5. Some of the points only apply to diabetics.
6. Most of the points start with
Sugar can cause … . This implies a link, but does not qualify it. The reader does not know whether the effect is to a segment of the population ie diabetics
7. There is no indication of how much
Sugar one would need to consume to have an effect. The reader might assume that a trace will do them harm.
8. There is no indication of whether any of these effects apply to people eating an (otherwise) healthy diet.
