Re: Why can't I breath and cough and my heart races when I exercise???

Hello! I'm overweight, have asthma and health issues also. I have started working to lose weight as well. I thought I'd share what's been helping.

For my asthma, well actually my stomache the asthma is a happy second, I've been taking l-cystene. Since I started in January of 04 I've dropped my steroid inhailor and don't need the albuterol inhailor daily. I also don't use my antihistime or my anti-inflamitory meds either! L-cystene is simply an amino acid that you need anyways. In most stores it comes under the name NAC.

Okay, now for the dizziness. Not getting oxygen is a huge cause for dizziness, fatigue, muscle pains, coughing, wheezing, etc. So using your inhailor (the albuterol if you have one) before you start your excercise. That will get your airways open so you can get the right amount of oxygen.

Now, while you excercise have something like gaterade and water handy. You need to replenish those electrolyes quickly, that also helps the dizziness and fatigue. I try to eat a very balanced diet that's higher in protein and veggies/fruit and lower in carbs. I don't go too low though because I tend to have Sugar crashes then. Eat the way that gives your body the best energy. THe book Eating For Your Blood Type is good for getting an idea.

The last advice I can share is how you are excercising. It sounds like your health problems may have gotten your body pretty far down. So you need to start lower. Instead of a cardio workout first do very, very low impact. Crunches, lunges, knee bends, some weights for your arms. But much more important is how many. So this will be in caps, DO NOT FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED 30 MINUTES 3X A WEEK!!! Your body can't handle that right now. Start with 3 to 5 minutes a day. Keep it very easy and low impact. If you can work in walking thats a good thing. Also try to do more active housework. Things like sweeping the walkway or some yard work. But only until you start to get tired. By going very slowly you'll see improvement much sooner and it won't hit your body as hard. Since I started this mini workouts I've lost 23 pounds!! And I have a hormone imbalance and fatigue problems to battle! I hope this helps, it's what's been working for me.
