I really feel for you as i was housebound with cystitis for about 3 months, and have been plagued by it for years. You do not mention your location- there is a good company based in the uk called sweet cures of york. they sell d-mannose which has helped me
. i am not sure whether my problem is bacterial or I.C. When taking d-mannose in massive quantities my symptoms subsided, another time when the symptoms were not so acute their product eradicated the problem completely.
You should visit their website as it is very informative, also I am sure they would be able to point you in the right direction for finding out more info on your condition as they are pretty deeply involved in that field.
As for the psychological aspect of your condition- have you considered hypnosis? I would reccomend trying the best practicioner you can find to avoid dissapointment. i think the trouble with a lot of alternative therapies is that the industry is not so well regulated, which could lead you to the conclusion that they don't work when really you ended up with an average practitioner. Also there is not a lot of research so you need someone with years of experience and lots of happy patients, or a no payment till satisfaction arrangement.
I would avoid psychoactive drugs like the plague- particularly the trycyclic antidepressants. It is my view that these drugs can lead to hypersensitivity and an enhanced potential for psychosomatic illness. In my view it is their hallucinogenic element which causes this. Instead I would aim to get cognitive behavorial therapy via your doctor- this is a type of therapy which is proven to work on deeply rooted issues, depression and the like.
There are many nutritionists who claim to be able to treat physical and mental conditions alike- I personally have a lot of faith in clinical nutrition. You should read the 'optimum nutrition bible' by patrick holford and use this as a starting point.
above all, do your research before parting with too much cash.
Good Luck
