Having a lot of stress would do that to your neck muscles. So would heavy lifting. Try to find some relaxation excercises, like yoga, to do. Easing the tension in your shoulders will keep the pain from happening. Another thing I just discovered this summer is using a laser pointer for acupuncture points! The wavelength needs to be 650 (I'm not sure that's hrz or not, it's the longer laser length). Just pass it slowly over the muscles in the effected area for about 10 to 30 seconds. The cells respond to the wavelength! I've used it on back muscle knots for my husband and his back is always better by the next morning. And pain subsides in 20 to 30 minutes and stays away!
