Re: Dr. Mercola's suggestions for eliminating ADHD.

Elmer Fudd said:

Today's letter (9/18/04) has a story
about a study which shows that chilren who play OUTSIDE after school and on weekends, reduce and
eliminate their ADD and ADHD symptoms.

It makes lots of sense. When I was a child in the late 1940's, no one ever heard of ADHD. When my friends and I came home from school, we played outside till dark. And we sent almost all of our weekends outside. TV didn't become common until the early 1950's, and of course, there were no computer games.

I respond: ADHD was described in the medical literature manyyears before that. It was opnly named ADHD recently. Thus, if you heard about ADHD in the late 1940's, or 50's, or 60's, you were way ahead of your time.

In addition to lots of time outide in God's sunshine, Dr. Mercola
makes three other suggestions which, he says, will eliminate the symptoms of ADHD from most children.

I respond: Exercise is good for all kids. All kids producme more brain chemicals, and this helps the ADHD kid for a little while. It is not a permanent cure.

1) Increase the amount of Omega 3 fats in your child's diet (and yours, too). I choose to grind organic golden flaxseed to supply
my Omega 3's, but you can also get them from cod liver oil and fish.

I respond: Fish is a good way to get Omega-3's. Some people have reported that increasing them does take the edge off of their ASDHD symptoms, but does not provide a cure or lead to removal of their need for meds.

2) Drink ONLY water and fresh juices. Banish all the diet soda
and processed drinks. Lots of pure water will eventually wash away the toxins in your kids.

I respond: What toxins? Consuming of liquids does help kidney and bowel function, which, of course, does detoxify.

3) Eliminate sugars and grains. Not easy to do, but vitally necessary -- especially the sugar.

Sugar does not causer ADHD as proven by numerous studies, some using the double blind-crossover-challenge model.

Dear Elmer:

Thank you for your well thought out and well written response. You have stated some excellent ideas and anyone who has a child with AD/HD knows what you said is correct.

I have wondered about this toxin bulloney since no one who says there are toxins can specifically identify any and then state that this toxin causes this problem. It sounds like a marketing trick to me.

I have not seen you post for a few days. Were you censored? If so, that is a shame.
