The first Chakra, or base Chakra, vibrates to the frequency of Red and is allied to the reproductive organs, legs, feet, hands, lower back and lower abdomen. When this Chakra is out of balance we experience problems in these areas. This can lead to pain, lack of energy, or hormonal dysfunction.

When this energy is balanced we have strength, are action oriented, we feel protected and can protect ourselves. It is our life drive and sexual, creative energy. We are grounded and 'down to earth' being rational and logical in our thinking. Red energy is required by the body to keep us warm. and to supply our fire and passion for life.

When we lack this energy we also lack vitality and feel as if our 'get up and go, got up and went'. When this energy is suppressed our creativity is also suppressed.

Red is the colour of fire. Fire brings to mind a variety of images for us. Fire is destructive and when Red energy (anger) is bottled up it will finally find a release which can be quite explosive and destructive. When this occurs, we become afraid of the destructive power of Red energy and seek to contain and control it even more. This only leads us into a vicious circle where release creates even more destruction and creates more fear, with the need to exert more control.
The root chakra is powerfully related to our contact with the Earth Mother, providing us with the ability to be grounded into the earthplane. This is also the center of manifestation.

When you are trying to make things happen in the material world, business or material possessions, the energy to succeed will come from the first chakra.
