From what I know, it's all connected: mind-spirit-body. Energy influences emotions/thoughts which influence energy. If you are very self-aware, then your perceptions are accurate gauges of your chakra energies, and working on changing the psychological aspect can (along with exercises)change the energy of the chakra. Conversely, doing the exercises (postures, sound, visualizations) will change one's mental/psychological state/perception. "Journey through the chakras" by Klansbernd Vollmar is a good book which deals with the psychological aspects (author studied philosophy and psychology).
