Re: Is Reiki effective and real ?
You know, that really depends on the person who receives it. Healing is permitted or not permitted, it not given. Everything in nature can be healing, but resistance prevents it. Every person by nature of his very existence is a healer. We all generate an energy field that mingles with other energy fields of people, plant and animals. If you feel good about yourself, then your energy field has an uplifting effect on others; you bring their energy field to a level of higher vibration. They may reward you with a smile or thank you for one thing or another. This makes you a healer. When you don't feel good about yourself, your energy field drops in frequency and you make it difficult for others to maintain theirs'. This may earn you an angry or unhappy reaction.
There is life force inside and outside us. When prevented to flow in and out of us or through us, this life force turns destructive in order to break our resistance to it. Disease and pain become the healer when voluntary permission or acceptance of the life force does not occur. There are hundreds of of ways healing others, provided they are ready to receive, meaning, they are more accepting of themselves and their lesser good qualities. Reiki, Shiatsu, massage, loving touch, and all the other methods out there channel one's field and flow of life force more directly towards someone, a plant or animal, and remove any resistance that may exist. By raising their energy field frequency in this way, the person feels better, more energized, more whole (another word for healed).
The placebo effect, which was mentioned here, is the healing response. As the meaning of the word suggests "I shall please", if you feel pleased or please someone, you automatically raise your and/or their energy field by a notch or two, enough to envoke measurable biochemical changes in the body.
The placebo response is real enough that it needs to be included in every medical study. Drugs "work" because they envoke a placebo response, just like sugar pills do. There is very little in any of the drugs that do any healing. That's why drug companies don't want to use sick, older or depressed subjects for their research, for these are known to produce a lesser placebo response for their drug. They will do a number of trials and select the best trial for publication. The best one is of course, the one that had the most positive, upbeat people in the main group. Such a group tends to have a higher placebo effect in response to the drug intake than a less positive placebo group. There isn't much scientific about scientific research conducted by scientists hired or paid by the pharmaceutical companies. Real healing, on the other hand, is less mysterious than is it generally being portrayed. It is very personal, straight forward, and immediate.
Thanks for the excellent question.
