REIKI is "Source Energy".

"Source" being your interpretation of God/dess, Creator, etc.

This energy IS The Source and animates every living thing. [Reiki also does wonders for humans, animals, plants, & even the food /water you consume.]

The only thing a Reiki practitioner does is form the INTENT that the energy received be for the healing of your body, mind, spirt, to it's highest good & purpose.

As per "your contract" as you incarnated on this plane, your "Higher Self" will decide whether or not the energy is accepted & if so, how & where it is utilized. [A bowel problem may well be caused by fear or grief in "letting go" of something...this is where the energy will go...to the source of the dis-ease, even if the Reiki is "applied" to the bowel area.]

A Reiki "practitioner" does NOT heal or cure...the practitioner is a conduit for this energy.

Many practitioners are very "sensitive" to energy and are able to "read" in the body where dis-ease is manifesting & so "direct" Reiki to these areas. [Medical Intuitive readings work in much the same way.]

These & others may ask their "perception" of Source Energy guides/angels/Ascended Masters/etc. to aid and/or assist in a reading or Reiki session.

There is no "woo-woo" or "hocus-pocus" involved. IF you run into anyone who "practices or says" otherwise...remove yourself from their administrations.

In many instances hospitals, hospices, cancer centers, dentists, veterinarians, & other allopathic entities are now accepting & using Reiki for a "support" system in treatment. It is even being accepted for continuig education credits for many health care professionals.

Of course, this does not make it "real or unreal"...just letting you know that acknowledgement & acceptance of this eneregy modality is growing.
