Interesting - my pain was lower, not under ribs. Isn't that liver? Sorry, don't mean to diagnose but you get a bit like that on these boards! Have you found Shelley yet? I am just making my way over to post on her new site...
I am going to wait and hear from the Australian person too.
When I asked the lab scientist, Bob Jackson if Dientamoeba fragilis was pathogenic he said yes. Six months ago when I tested positive for entamoeba coli (not thought to be disease productive) he said that 20 years ago giardia was also NOT thought to be pathogenic! The lab notes received on entamoeba coli (taken from Tsieh Sun : Color Atlas and textbook of Diagnostic Parasitology) state that "its presence should raise suspicion of the existance of other parasites". Like you I keep an open mind.
