When I asked the lab scientist, Bob Jackson if Dientamoeba fragilis was pathogenic he said yes. Six months ago when I tested positive for entamoeba coli (not thought to be disease productive) he said that 20 years ago giardia was also NOT thought to be pathogenic! The lab notes received on entamoeba coli (taken from Tsieh Sun : Color Atlas and textbook of Diagnostic Parasitology) state that "its presence should raise suspicion of the existance of other parasites". Like you I keep an open mind.
