Libby...I agree, not a lot of love has been in some of these posts & I think it is pretty easy to tell when something is spoken out of contempt/hatred or love/respect.I wasn't saying those here who have spoken in a hateful way are right. My main point here is that Christians are human...not saints & I do believe you CAN be a Christian & not be perfect....even be wrong.
I'll give a small example: My son went to school with a boy he considered a very good friend(still does)he has been over to his house several times & has met the boys parents. This boy has never been to our house. My son tried one last time to invite the boy over even going as far as to talk directly to the mother even saying "if today is bad when do you think would be a good time for you & I'll try to get my work schedule to work around that"... the mother brushed him off very quickly & was off the phone before he could say another thing. My son was VERY upset & when talking to me said "& she says she is a Christian yet she doesn't like me & won't even tell me to my face"... well... I had to call him on that. I am not sure why she does not like him. I know her son got in some minor trouble at school which had NOTHING to do with my son but maybe she thinks my son is a bad influence. Anyway.. I had to explain to him that just because he didn't agree with her doesn't mean she is not a Christian.. maybe she really thinks he is a bad influence, she would be wrong, but even so it doesn't make her less of a Christian... she is being a good parent for doing what she feels is the right thing. And as for him speaking in anger, questioning her Christianity, well that doesn't make him less of a Christian either...just human... & how easy it is to speak without thinking. I really don't like it when someone says "and they call themselves a Christian!" Now if my son were younger I would probably step in & try to solve the conflict but the boys are 17 & it is time for 'Mom' to step out & let him learn about life.
Sorry this post was so lengthy...and yes I do think we should be careful with our words,but we all are human.
