Re: Skinny Legs and All!!!!!

Well, I will make it a priority to read Skinny Legs next. Jitterbug Perfume has been my favorite so far. Something about it really speaks to me. It is such a beautiful, quirky love story. And of course I am intrigued by the idea of immortality! I guess there is a part of me that wishes it could be true. And I also love the epic nature of the storyline, that we get exposed to many different time periods and places. And his writing is so unique and intelligent. I had never thought of it as post-modern, but now that you mention it, I can see how that is true based on his narrative style. He has a way of deconstructing the modern novel and putting his own spin on it. I have heard him compared to Kurt Vonnegat (sp?) although I have never read any of his novels. Other than Jitterbug, I have also read Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, Still Life, and Another Roadside Attraction. I love how the main characters mantras in Still Life are "Yum" and "Yuk". That just cracks me up! Thanks, Grog, for listening to me go on and on about Robbins.
Do you know if his writing was popular when it first came out? in the eighties I think?
Do you have any recommendations for good books?
P.S. I can see how you would relate to the characters in "Still Life". You've got a bit of a "bomber" in you I think...hee hee.
