My son was born in 1988. We had already decided against circumcision because it is barbaric, unnecessary and excessively cruel to cut a most sensitive part of a newborn's body at the point when he is just getting over the trauma of birth and learning to trust. I walked down to the nursery an hour after the other boys were "snipped". My son and a few other boys were sleeping peacefully in one area. The "abused" boys (yes- it IS abuse!) were sobbing in a darkened area- with no one to even attempt comfort! One little boy's eyes were open and appeared glazed, as though he was in shock. Today my son is a well-adjusted teenager, so caring that yesterday I saw him gently pull a dragonfly from a spider's web, clean its wings and free it (no "neocon" tendencies here!), very popular with both girls and boys and praised by a school guidence staff who consider him a "leader". Did his high level of confidence come from our protective actions? Maybe. Maybe not. But I am convinced deliberate cruelty to a defenseless child can only lead to problems later on! Ignorance is no longer an excuse! People should know better than to circumcise now! You do not hurt what you love! -Kathy
