Whew - all this twisted logic.

Sorry, I don't mean to be inflammatory here, but anyone who says 'we love God because I don't want to go to hell' probably has never cultivated any kind of real relationship with God. There are more than a few errors here that in all fairness need to be adressed. First of all, God doesn't 'punish' anyone by sending them to hell. Wether you believe in hell or not is not the issue here, for all of you ready to pounce on me. I'm addressing the person who said God will punish and send to hell....etc.,. First of all, God came in the form of Jesus to *save* us from hell, a place that was NOT created for humans. We, and only we, send ourselves to hell, get that???? God has made the way for us to avoid that, and in that sense, we love Him that He rescued us from our own self-inflicted fate, not His ill-will. God doesn't want anyone, anywhere to go to hell ever! Getting this wrong is an irresponsible use of the Word and dangerous.
Furthermore, we love God because of *Who* He is, not because if we don't love Him then we are in deep doo-doo. Even a tiny baby would be wise enough to see through that one. We love Him for all of His attributes, and I need not list them here, but they can be readily found. So in answer to the original question, yes, we would love God in every circumstance because what we are loving is the goodness, perfection and the essence of perfect love that He is, and love calls to love. If you still want to see God, Christians or whatever in a negative light, hey, be my guest, I'm not trying to convince you. But that needed some straightening out.

And tabi, I can understand when you ask that your question be answered without using references to a book for which you hold no respect or esteem of any sort, but to say answer from your mind, not your heart? C'mon, you would have to define first for us how you see the sharp definition between things of the heart and things of the intellect, which in the case of faith, are closely intertwined. It's fair to ask intelligent questions, but not to assume the lack thereof in the answers of others, as in that you negate your own.
