Re: Saturday or Sunday?

Hi Donna!

I am excited to hear that you are exploring the question of the Sabbath as I believe that it will become an important issue as the return of our Lord draws near.

I have recently begun attending a Messianic congregation. It is a mix of Jewish believers and Christian gentiles and we observe the Hebraic practice of the Christian faith including the Sabbath and ordained feast days. We attend services on Saturday which includes a prayer and worship service, potluck meal, and then a study of the scriptures (and most of the congregation participates in the entire day). The whole day is about 5 1/2 hours and is a wonderful time of congregational prayer, fellowship and study. Children are involved in every part and it is so neat to see adolescents and teenagers studying the bible along with the adults.

Most of the families also observe a Friday Shabbat with traditional candle lighting, prayers, meal and fellowship time. We also gather together as a congregation to celebrate the feast days. At first, I did not have strong convictions about the keeping of the Sabbath, but through the study of the scriptures, God has been showing me the importance of keeping his law, including the Sabbath.

The Sabbath is important because it acknowledges Him as creator - as God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. He then commanded His people to do the same. When we keep the seventh day Sabbath a Holy Day we are proclaiming the message of creation over evolution. I believe that the seventh day Sabbath also has prophetic significance in that six days could represent six thousand years and the seventh day of rest could be the thousand year reign of Christ upon the earth. In this regard...when we observe the Sabbath we are proclaiming Christ's return.

Blessings to you!
Eileen
