Strange taste and ill health after root canal treatment
I have been reading a lot of the posts in this forum with much interest. I have had a lot of dental problems recently and am looking for some advice, I will try to summarise my problems. 3 months ago I had a
root canal on an upper right molar after having a nasty abscess that drained through my palate. This cleared the abscess and my palate healed though almost immediately I started getting a horrible taste/sensation (chemical like but not metallic) around my lower right teeth, this would come and go though was made worse on each of the 3 visits for the
root canal treatment. At its worst it actually makes my throat sore. The tooth itself is OK though I started to develop an ache in my upper jaw and in my lower jaw, I continued to have the taste which seemed to be draining from around my root filled tooth and the teeth below in lower my jaw. As the weeks went by I noticed other symptoms, notably light-headedness, headaches on right side of my head, some mild facial pain, mild ear-ache which has now progressed to tinnitus (initially on the right but now both) and very bad fatigue.
I have also had a couple of big fillings replaced recently, in particular the lower right wisdom tooth now has a filling very close to the nerve, I also have an old root filled tooth sitting next to this. I have a gold crown on the lower left which started to ache and taste salty as soon as I had the recent
root canal treatment. I can’t help feeling all these problems are related to the root canal as I was in pretty good health before.
My dentist says there is no dental problem and the x ray is fine, no cracked root, no signs of infection. I have read so much on the internet recently about
Amalgam fillings and
root canals that it is hard not to believe that they are poisoning me. I would like some balanced opinions and suggestions on what to do next. At the moment I have had no explanations but plenty of ideas including jaw bone infection, mercury poisoning, oral galvanism, sinus problems, this list goes on and on. My dentist is not taking me seriously though I have been referred for a CAT by my doctor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
