root canal is done right, it should last nearly forever and never give you a problem.
Yes, there could be a surgical steel post helping to add strength to the remaining tooth, but these days there is usually no
Amalgam in the restoration.
Gutta Percha, a natural material, is used to seal up the root end of the tooth, the post is affixed with cement and generally the entire top surface is crowned.
With a tooth implant, a titanium appliance is screwed into the bone to support the post (which is screwed into the appliance). The tooth crown is cemented to the post. Dental implants are nonallergenic. Titanium is used for knee joints and hip replacements so it is a metal that is compatible with your body. In fact bone will grow and affix itself to the titanium appliance.
People with a root canal, can chew foods normally. People with dentures can only chew food with about 20% of the force of their natural teeth, people with implants can chew with 85% to 95% of the force of their natural teeth.
